Freaky Comp Friday: Death by Chocolate

Think it's a joke? Unfortunetly, this is a true story. As covered by SafetyNewsAlerta worker died last summer after falling into a vat of chocolate. Now, the two companies involved in the accident are facing OSHA fines. In addition, both companies face serious violations for:

-lack of proper railing surrounding the tanks

-exposing employees to nine-foot falls

-failing to provide fire extinguisher training

Please note: we are not taking this accident lightly or poking fun at it. It is a serious and unfortunate accident that resulted in the loss of someone's life. What we hope to accomplish by sharing this story is to remind you that you can't lose sight of even the simplest of things like slips and falls in the workplace. As part of your workplace safety program, make it a habit to routinely review work areas and ensure that proper safeguards are in place.
